I know I had said that I will be keeping the text from this semester and using it next semester, but I have in fact changed my mind after seeing the latest edition of another text. I apologize for this, but just wanted to let everyone know.
At this time, I believe all of the grades in the gradebook are up to date. Please check your grades and email me if you have any questions. The Exam 4's are available to be picked up at the following times:
Friday, May 5th 9:00am - 11:00am
Monday, May 8th 9:00am - 4:00pm
Tuesday, May 9th 11:30am - 4:00pm
Wednesday, May 10th 9:00am - 4:00pm
Thursday, May 11th 9:00am - 11:00am
I will be submitting grades on Friday, May 12th, so please contact me before then if you have questions/concerns.
UB Undergraduate Students Needed to Help with NSF-Funded
CASE STUDIES IN SCIENCE WORKSHOP
Four-Day Job Opportunity! Earn as Much as $200!
Our grant-funded summer workshop trains undergraduate science faculty
to
teach using case studies. You can help us by being a part of the
"student
audience" for our practice teaching sessions. During these sessions,
workshop faculty will teach a case study. Your job is to critique the
faculty's teaching methods and the case study. You can earn $100 for
working two days in the first session and $100 for working two days in
the
second session. You can work either session or both sessions. If you
work both sessions, you would earn a total of $200.
WHEN: 1st Session - Thursday, May 25 & Friday, May 26, 2006
2nd Session - Thursday, June 8 & Friday, June 9, 2006
or BOTH SESSIONS
From 8:30am - 4:30pm, each day (with a lunch break)
WHO: Freshmen and sophomores currently attending UB
HOW MUCH: You will earn $100 for each session, for a total of $200 if
you
work both sessions.

Albert will not be attending a conference the week of April 17th. His office hours are cancelled, but his recitations will meet as normal.
As stated in class on Monday, John McCarthy, (the man who coined the term "artificial intelligence") will be speaking as part of the department's Distinguished Speakers Series on Friday, April 21st at 2:00pm in 330 Student Union. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Albert's office hours on 4/13 will be cancelled.

CSE Mentors Needed for Fall 2006
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Starting in Fall 2006, the CSE department will begin a mentoring program
for new majors (students enrolled in CSE 115). We are in need of
students to serve as mentors for these freshmen.
Students interested in applying must minimally meet the following
qualifications:
* Student at UB (extreme preference given to undergraduate students)
* In good academic standing at the University and within the department
* Must have taken more than one semester's worth of courses at UB
(having taken CSE 115 & 116 at UB preferred)
Mentor responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
* Guiding a small group of CSE 115 students as they begin their
academic careers in the CSE department
* Organizing regular meetings with mentees
* Attending an orientation session for mentors and mentees
* Attending a weekly mentor meeting with a faculty mentor supervisor
Applicants are asked to create a resume and also to write a no more
than 250 word (ie - one page double spaced) response to the following:
If I had a mentor in CSE 115, I would have liked him/her to have
helped me with...
You must place your resume, your essay response as well as a print out
of the "My Grades & GPA" link from MyUB in the mailbox of Carl
Alphonce no later than Friday, March 10, 2006. You must include your
UB email address on your resume.
Suitable applicants will be contacted to arrange an interview.
While this is an unpaid position, you will receive University credit
for participating in the mentor program.

CSE 115 UTAs Needed for Fall 2006

We are now accepting applications to fill positions as paid undergraduate TAs
in CSE 115 starting in Fall 2006.
Students interested in applying must minimally meet the following
qualifications:
* Student at UB (extreme preference given to undergraduate students)
* In good academic standing at the University and within the department
* Must have taken CSE 115 - 116 at UB
* Be enrolled as a student at UB for the entire 2006 - 2007 academic year
Undergraduate TA responsiblilites include (but are not limited to):
* Teaching recitations
* Holding office hours
* Hosting tutorials
* Attending all class lectures
* Attending weekly 115 staff meetings
Applicants are asked to create a resume and also to write a no more than
250 word (ie - one page double spaced) response to the following question:
What is/are the thing(s) that you learned in CSE 115 that you
(have used most often/found most important) as you progressed
through the program?
You must place your resume, your response to the question above as well as
a print out of the "My Grades & GPA" link from MyUB in the mailbox of
Adrienne Decker no later than Friday, March 10, 2006. You must include
your UB email address on your resume.
Suitable applicants will be called back for an interviewing process to
determine a candidate's appropriateness for the position. Please note that
the interview process has multiple stages that will be described as you
progress.
This is a paid hourly position (more than minimum wage) and starting
salary will be determined based on the qualifications of the candidate.
