Background

I was born in London, England in 1976, and went to school on the South East coast of England at St. Andrew's school and Eastbourne College.

From 1994 to 1998 I got my BA (and MA) and MSci degrees from the University of Cambridge in Physics (Natural Sciences).

I did my PhD in the area of Machine Learning at the Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit. My dissertation is titled "Variational Algorithms for Approximate Bayesian Inference" and was supervised by Zoubin Ghahramani.

From early 2003 to July 2004 I was a Postdoc with Radford Neal in the Machine Learning Group in the Computer Science department at the University of Toronto.

In August 2004 I became an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science and Engineering department at SUNY Buffalo.

I also hold an Adjunct Assistant Professor appointment in the Department of Biostatistics, and am a member of the University at Buffalo Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics.
