SNePS Homework

Last Update: 8 February 2004

Note: NEW or UPDATED material is highlighted

Represent the following paragraph in SNePS, along with one or more node-based rules (which you must supply) that will allow SNePS/Cassie to infer that Pat dialed Mary's telephone number but that will not allow her to infer that Pat knows Mary's telephone number.

Since the passage is a connected paragraph, you should use a single network, but you can split it up into separate parts (as indicated by the sentence numbers) for ease of reading if you wish. However, make sure that, if you represent some concept with a node in one part of the network, you should represent that same concept with the same node if it reappears in another part of the network (that's part of what's called the "uniqueness principle").

You may use either a graphical net (hand-drawn is fine) or SNePSUL code.

Give the syntax and semantics of each case frame you use. See the SNePS Case Frame Dictionary [postscript] or the CVA Case Frame Dictionary for ideas and examples.
