Hotel rate figures do not include local taxes; figure actual costs as 10-15% higher. However, parking is free at all the hotels; the parking lots have lots of space. Note changes to the previous rate information for the Hampton and University Inns.
The blocks of rooms at these hotels are being held until May 29, which is the same as the deadline for advance registration.
Hampton Inn--Amherst, 10 Flint Road, Amherst, NY 14226. Rate: $76 (double room, same for 1 or 2 people). Reservations: 1-800-HAMPTON (1-800 426-7866). Local: (716) 689-4414. FAX (716) 689-4382, http://www.hamptoninn.com/
Advantages: Free airport shuttle, nice free
"continental" breakfast in big, pleasant lobby, pool,
exercise room, helps arrange excursions, short walk to
conference site. Disadvantages: None.
Note: Make sure you say
"Amherst"
when reserving---you don't want the "Airport-Galleria" Hampton. Say
"Computer Science Conference" for the conference rates. NB: on some
nights, the non-conference single rate is $74, $2 lower! ($83 for
two).
University Inn, 2401 N. Forest Road, Amherst, NY 14226. Rate: $62 (one person in a double room) or $72 (two people in that room); $10 more for king beds. Reservations: (716) 636-7500; FAX (716) 636-8296, http://www.universityinn.com/

restaurant, aggressively lower room rate than the Hampton
for singles, tennis courts, plus ALL of the Hampton's
advantages EXCEPT... Disadvantages: ...it's 1.5 miles from the conference
site---but free transport to campus sites is provided.
Alternatives to the hotel restaurant are more than a 10-min.
walk away.
Note the location at the upper-right corner of my campus
map. They made "UB" the magic word for the
conference rates, but say "Computer Science" too---and tell them the
rooms were blocked for "June 13--18".

Hosted athletes at the 1993 World University
Games. Disadvantages: No private bathrooms, not
air-conditioned, a 3/4-mile walk to the conference site that
is NOT your typical pretty walk across a college campus,
nothing fun nearby.
We will have grad students with cars able to transport people to and from the dorms if needed. Note location and walk routes on my campus map. Thanks to David Schweizer for finding the URL for centering Yahoo's map on the dorms.
