Dr. Shambhu Upadhyaya joined the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering, SUNY at Buffalo in 1986. He started work in the areas of Fault Tolerance and VLSI Testing. A lot has evolved since then. The Dept. of Computer Science and the Computer Engineering section of the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering have merged to become one single Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering. His avenues of research have expanded and he has ventured into the fields of Distributed Applications and Computer Security. There are now three groups working under him, investigating various related issues of computer engineering. Of late, the recent trends have necessitated a closer collaboration between these groups. SPIDER was formed in Fall 2000 as a vehicle to meet this goal. It is still in its infancy and all the "nuts & bolts" are being assembled gradually.
