The 4th Eastern Great Lakes Theory of Computation Workshop

Dates: September 10 and 11, 2011

Location: Center for Tomorrow, University at Buffalo North Campus.

This workshop will be an opportunity for researchers in theory of computation within a few hours driving distance to Buffalo to interact. Talks will begin after lunch Saturday afternoon, September 10, and the event will end after lunch Sunday, September 11.

The First Eastern Great Lakes Theory of Computation workshop was held on September 6 and 7, 2008; the Second Eastern Great Lakes Theory of Computation workshop was held on October 3 and 4, 2009 and the Third Eastern Great Lakes Theory of Computation workshop was held on October 9 and 10, 2010.

The workshop will feature talks by the speakers above and a graduate student hour. Here is the schedule.

Graduate Student Hour

Like last year, we will again have a graduate student hour.

On Saturday, September 10, there will be short talks by graduate students from 5-6pm. We will have at most three talks of equal duration in one hour. Preference will be given to students who will graduate by summer of 2012. If you are interested, please email the following information to atri "at" buffalo.edu:

  1. Name.
  2. School.
  3. Expected graduation month.
  4. Advisor.
  5. Research focus.
  6. Title and (short) abstract of the proposed talk.

If we receive more than three proposals, the organizing committee will pick three speakers. Our goal will be to have a diverse set of talks, both in research topics and geographical representation.

The deadline for sending in your nominations is August 15, 2011 and the list of speakers will be finalized by August 20, 2011.

We will cover the registration fees (but not accommodation) for the student speakers.

The registration fees is $60. This will cover Saturday lunch, Sunday breakfast and lunch and all refreshments during breaks (Saturday dinner is not included). To register online, click here. The deadline for registration is September 4, 2011.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellation requests received on or before September 4, 2011 are fully refundable less a processing fee of $10. There will be no refunds after September 4, 2011. All cancellation requests must be in writing via email to cse-eagl "at" buffalo.edu.

The workshop is reserving a block of rooms at the Comfort Inn. These rooms are being held at a first-come-first-serve basis till August 10, 2011. To make your reservations, please call (716) 688-0811 and mention that you are with the EaGL Work Shop - UB Computer Science to avail the special room rate. (Be sure to pronounce "EaGL" as "Eagle.")

Like the third EaGL, the workshop is going to be at the Center for Tomorrow, which is walking distance from the hotel.

There will ample free parking for EaGL attendees at the Center for Tomorrow (the parking lot is right across the Center for Tomorrow building and is called Center for Tomorrow lot).
