CSE 111 - Fall 2002
Lab #2
Background
In
last lab, we explored the web and email and learned how to do some basic
“housekeeping” on the system, by learning how to create directories and save
our files. In this lab, we will explore
the basics of a word processing program, Microsoft Word.
The
TA will begin lab by introducing some of the ideas that you will need to
complete the lab. Ask the TA if you
have any questions about the contents of the lab, or if you are unsure how to
accomplish a specific task.
Creating
a Folder for Lab 2
Recall
from last lab that we created a folder for our Lab 1 work. Refer back to those directions and create a
folder in CSE111 entitled Lab2 that you will save all your Lab 2 work in.
Creating
a Word Document
You
will create a word document on a subject of your choice containing the
following elements. Please note, that
while the content of the document is entirely your discretion, please refrain
from putting things in your document that could be viewed as inappropriate or
offensive. Such papers will receive no
credit.
If
you do not remember how to do any of the following, refer to your lecture
notes, or seek out assistance from your instructor or teaching assistant during
office hours. Note that the
requirements for the document must be followed exactly. You will not receive full credit for the lab
if there are any portions missing.
1)
The
document must be at least two full pages in length.
2)
Margins
on both pages should be set at .75” on top and bottom and 1.25” on left and
right.
3)
At
least two different font faces should be present in the document.
4)
At
least two different font sizes should be present in the document.
5)
At
least two different font colors should be present in the document.
6)
Two
of the paragraphs must be spaced differently. (For example, one single spaced,
and one double spaced)
7)
At
least two font effects. One of the Font
effects must be from the Format -> Font menu, not from the toolbar.
8)
There
must be one symbol inserted from the Insert -> Symbol menu.
9)
There
must be two text alignments presented in the document.
10)
There
must be a list of elements in the document, either bulleted or numbered.
11)
There
must be a section of text that is shaded.
12)
The
pages must be numbered in a footer. The
first page should not be numbered
13)
There
should be a header containing your name, student number, and lab section.
14)
An
image should be inserted in the document.
The image can be either a clip art or a photographic image. The choice of type of image and what the
image represents is yours.
What
should I hand in and when is this due?
You
should save your document on a 3.5” floppy disk and hand in the disk at the
beginning of lecture on Monday, September 23, 2002. If you can fit this file on the disk for Lab 1, that would be
preferred. However, if you need more
space, you may submit more than one disk.
Make sure each disk has your name on it.
