Lab
1 Preparatory Work
In order to carry out the required lab tasks you must prepare. To prepare, you must carry out the following tasks before coming to your first lab session.
Get
your UB Card
If you do not yet have your UB Card, visit the UB Card office in UB Commons, Room 101.
Enable
your UB-IT account
Take your UB Card to a public computing site to find your UB-IT name and password. Public sites are located in:

your UB e-mail account
Visit the Getting Started page of the iCONNECT@UB web site. The URL of the Getting Started is
http://www.buffalo.edu/iconnect/gettingstarted
The iCONNECT@UB web site is designed to help you get acquainted with computing resources available to you as a UB student. On the Getting Started page there is a checklist for new students. Follow the link to enable your UB e-mail account. If you wish to set up mail forwarding from you UB e-mail account, you may do so. You may want to wait until after you attend lab to set up your UB e-mail forwarding. In any event, you must still enable your UB e-mail account.
Purchase
you course textbooks
If you have not already done so, make sure you have bought all of your course textbooks. You should review Chapter 0 in Beekman before coming to lab if possible.
Logging
on to your computer
The first thing you need to do in the lab is to log on to your workstation. You do this by typing in a username and password. This username and password is the same as the one you received when you enabled your UB-IT account. After you type them in, your screen will display a Windows desktop.
Open
the course website
Now, open the web browser of your choice (Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape), and go to the course web site: http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/faculty/adrienne/FA2002/cse111
Recall, if you do not remember the entire website, you can go first to http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/~adrienne and follow the link to the course website. Now, click on the Labs button on the left hand side of the screen, and click on the link for Lab 1 to begin your work on the lab.
