CSE 115 - Fall 2008 - Installing Software at Home

Install JDK

Go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp and download the JDK 6 Update 7 package for Java. Take note of the installation instructions, especially the section on changing your system path variable. If you do not change your path variable, I can guarantee that you will have significant difficulties getting the next steps to work.

Install Eclipse

The version of Eclipse you want to install if you want to match the environment in the lab is version 3.3.

If you are using Windows Vista, you do not want to put this directly into your C:\ directory or into C:\Program Files. Eclipse likes to write a lot of temporary files and Vista does not like that behavior. So, you should create a directory somewhere named eclipse and put the installation into that directory.

Install Green, DrJava, Web-CAT plugins

Install Green from http://green.sourceforge.net/. You want version 3.0.0

Install the DrJava plugin from http://www.drjava.org/eclipse.shtml. You want version 0.9.8

Install the Web-CAT plugin (stayed tuned - more details to come)
