Logging in from home
Download and install two programs from http://wings.buffalo.edu/computing/software/download/win/index.html:
- SSH Secure Shell (Secure Telnet Client)
- X-Win32 (X terminal application)
Configure SSH just once (there's no need to reconfigure these settings after
you've done it once):
- Start up the SSH Secure Shell Telnet Client. Under "Edit", select "Settings".
- Under "settings", select "Tunneling".
- Under "Tunneling", check the box that says "Tunnel X11 Connections". Select
the OK button.
- Under "File", select "Save Settings"
- Exit the SSH Secure Shell program for now.
Start the XWin32 Program.
- Make sure a blue "X" appears in your lower right icon tray.
- Start the SSH Secure Client Program. Select "Quick Connect".
- Under "Host Name" type in unix.eng.buffalo.edu (or dracula.eng.buffalo.edu,
or joker.eng.buffalo.edu).
- Under Username, type in your user name. Port Number is 22. Authentication
method is password. Select the Connect button.
- You should get a password prompt. Type in your user number.
- You should get a Unix Terminal Session.
- To test that you have full graphics capability, type xeyes.
