Patient name: Brendon H medical record number 0219 date of birth 11/7/97 date of admission 8/26/00 date of discharge 9/18/00 private doctor: Bayfield This is a three-year-old male with a history of reactive airway disease = who presented to Children's Hospital with an asthma exacerbation. A = chest x-ray revealed a left lower lobe infiltrate Patient required = intubation for 12 days and ECMO for 8 days in the intensive care unit. = Patient was then transferred to the floor. On the floor, the patient was seen by the allergy/immunology service and = Lung Center. Several attempts were made to obtain a sweat test to rule = out cystic fibrosis on this patient but none of the tests were = satisfactory. As an alternative, blood was drawn for genetic markers. = These results were pending at the time of discharge. Patient's = neurologic status was initially less responsive than baseline, but = improved markedly during his hospital stay. When the patient was tolerating room air and his routine asthma = medications well, he was discharged. Patient was to continue his Flovent = and Albuterol treatments. Mother was asked to follow-up with = allergy/immunology, Lung Center and the Rehabilitation Center. Physical = therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy were arranged for this = patient.
