The primary goal of the Cornell/Sabir TIPSTER Phase III project is to develop techniques to improve the end-user efficiency of information retrieval systems. We have focused our investigations in four related research areas: (1) high-precision information retrieval; (2) near-duplicate detection; (3) context-dependent document summarization; (4) context-dependent multi-document summarization. Taken as a whole, our research aims to increase end-user efficiency in each of the above tasks by reducing the amount of text that the user must peruse in order to get the desired useful information.
