CSE241 Digital Systems
Welcome to Spring 2017 and Digital Systems course. This course deals with digital logic systems that are present almost every device we use today. We will cover theoretical foundation of digital systems in Boolean algebra, design and implementation of combinational and sequentional circuits, and scaling up our design approaches using Verilog hardware description language.
The required text book for the course is:
Digital Design: With an Introduction to the Verilog HDL by M. Morris Mano and Michael D. Ciletti, Prentice Hall; 6th edition (2017), ISBN-13: 9780134549897.
Some of you have bought the 5th edition of the text book. It is Okay. You will have to map it onto the new edition, when we assign homeworks and exam topics. We will help you with this.
You will also buy a lab-kit of components customized for the course. Details can be found in the syllabus.
A broad overview of the topics to be covered is given below.
Introduction to Boolean Algebra, idioms, laws and theorems
Logic gates
Boolean algebraic simplifiction
Karnaugh Map simplification
Design and Implementation of Combinational Circuits
SSI, MSI and LSI integrated chips
Flips-flops; Design and implementation sequential circuits
Design and testing using Verilog Hardware Description Language
All concepts discussed during the lectures will be reinforced by homework problems and hands-on lab exercises.
