About

Dr. Julian Ryde is a Research Assistant Professor in the Computer Science and Engineering, department of the University at Buffalo, New York.

Previously, he was a Post Doctoral Fellow at the Autonomous Systems Laboratory in Brisbane Australia, which is part of the CSIRO.

His PhD thesis was 'Cooperative Mapping and Localisation of Multiple Mobile Robots' and was undertaken at the University of Essex. Prior to that he spent 2 years as an IT Consultant with Accenture.

For his undergraduate and masters he studied the Natural Sciences Tripos at the University of Cambridge (St John's College) finishing with a 1st in physics.

Research

His research focus is Mobile Autonomous System Perception. This has been principally driven by the challenges mobile robots encounter when attempting to move throughout the real world. More research details are described in Publications and the pages under Research in the menu on the left.
